Bat Pic!

I took this with a crappy little camera walking back from the Gym! This tree is right in the middle of the Bat colony that live on the camp. Is this cool or am I just being sad...............

Takula

Last week I went to visit Andy Bathgate, another ex Navy colleague who is the Camp Boss on 'Takula'.

I can't help but feel slightly envious of Andy now. He has instant internet, works 4 weeks on and 4 off and is generally left to his own devices. But...........he now has the joys of QAF to better occupy his time! Muahahahahahahaha!

I have had many ideas for a caption for this picture. Any of you guys that work out in Angola; please feel free to  comment..............

Some action shots!

This is Papa Antonio, one of the oldest guys in the kitchen at 59, preparing a local vegetable called 'Sacafolha (pronounced Sac-a-foh-lia).

Sacafolha is a spinach like leaf vegetable that gets boiled down, then is mixed with fish and palm oil and then served to make Sacafohla com Peixe (Sacafolha with Fish). The Angolans love it. (I actually detest it!).

Another variation is 'Sacafolha com Feijoa' which is with Beans! Yum.........

This is Luis Graciano, one of our Function Chefs. He is making a  Spinach and Salmon Roulade for a VIP function. We cater for around 10-20 private functions a week and the chefs are taught from scratch.

The finished article. Spinach and Salmon Roulade with a Mustard and cream sauce. Not bad for a remote site!

Malongo Wildlife...........

This 'little' fella meandered across my desk one morning........
I had a good chat with him........
He had a little lay down.........
Then we played thumb wars.....

Anyone for Cricket?

A rare Orange tailed Dragon Fly........(totally made that name up)

This little chap lives in my room behind the toilet.
And these little buggers raid the garden of our Papaya and Bananas!
And finally the rarest of creatures.........The Lesser Striped Jessett.  Allegedly this creature surfaces once every 6 weeks, releases loud, venomous farts, makes one cup of coffee and then retreats back to his hovel. If you see this creature please use the utmost caution. If you get a coffee from this rare beast then count yourself lucky.

Murthy & his Watermelon Carvings

Meet Murthy Raghavan, our Kitchen Manager. Murthy is from Chennai, absolutely loves his cricket (apart from when England spanked India in the test series) and is a big fan of old school British humour such as 'Faulty Towers' and 'It aint half hot mum'!

Murthy is a key person within the Malongo Catering Operation. He supports us in managing and supervising the day to day running of the kitchen and plays an important part in developing our staff. He speaks fluent Portuguese and English and is generally an all round top bloke! Everyone should have their own Murthy, but hands off this one, he is ours!

'Hotel' Malongo - Not really a hotel, just a glorified bus stop.
